Humanizing Health: Ryan Vinh's Service Project

Through service projects, UHP students are able to add dimension to their UC Davis experience by applying classroom lessons to the larger community.

Ryan Vinh, 4th Year Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior major, has been volunteering with Knights Landing since his 2nd year. Knights Landing One Health Center is a clinic that serves the Knights, a small, rural town of less than 1000 people that is about 30 minutes north of Davis.

UHP 50th: Inside Scoop

Honors alumni and current Honors students came together in celebration of 50 years of intellectual risk-taking, leadership in a diverse and complex world, and action on behalf of positive social change.

"It is not the program itself we are celebrating, but it is all of you that we are honoring and celebrating this weekend. You are what make this program," said Director Dave Furlow proudly during Friday night's alumni dinner. The 50th Honors Celebration brought together new and old faces through an alumni dinner, alumni-student luncheon, and various demonstrations and tours.

A Celebration 50 Years in the Making

by David Furlow, UHP Director

On October 11th and 12th, 2019, the University Honors Program had the distinct pleasure of recognizing the 50th anniversary of the founding of Integrated Studies in 1969, and celebrating its legacy that helped shape, along with the Davis Honors Challenge, the program we have today.

Dear Friends,

Using Language to Foster Inclusiveness

The University Honors Program honors diverse backgrounds and fosters an inclusive environment for all students in our community.

Melissa Loomis, Cognitive Science major '20, took her experience with the UC Davis language exchange Pal Program international when she studied abroad in Scotland and participated in a similar program called the Tandem Language Exchange Program. Utilizing these programs, Melissa was able to create an inclusive environment wherever she was in the world.

UHP Student Attends 2019 Undergraduate Leaders' Program at the University of Oregon

Leadership embodies the University Honor Program's mission to empower oneself and others to act intentionally and transform society.

Ivan Rocha, a psychology major entering his fourth year, attended the 2019 APRU Undergraduate Leaders' Program (ULP) at the University of Oregon in July. The Association of Pacific Rim Universities, APRU, is an organization for Asia-Pacific schools to promote research.

Igniting Community Activism Through Student Leadership

The University Honors Program encourages students to engage in leadership to foster lifelong skills and make an impact in our UC Davis communities and beyond.

Vannalee Cayabyab, Political Science and Spanish double major ’19, exemplified student leadership throughout her undergraduate career at UC Davis, tracing back to her first year. Vannalee made her mark through her leadership roles in women's political leadership organization IGNITE, BRIDGE: Pilipinx Outreach and Retention, and even co-founding Pilipinx in Business and Law (PIBL).
