University Honors Program celebrate 55 years!
In October, Integrated Studies, or I.S., alumni hosted their 55th reunion in Davis. The Integrated Studies program grew and adapted over the years, merging the Davis Honors Challenge, Integrated Studies and Integrated Studies Honors Program in the early 2000’s, under the banner of University Honors Program.
With over 50 people attending, the event was a joyful experience with the sharing of lots of stories and memories. New acquaintances were made, and old friendships were renewed. The Integrated Studies program is the oldest living-learning community in the UC system, that still thrives today as the University Honors Program.
The honors program invites members to contribute their materials to a digital archives project now underway. Contributions include writing about your I.S. experience, photos or other mementos.
The program’s impact lives on in the memories and stories of the alumni. Some attendees recalled memories that underscore this significant impact on their lives — personally, professionally, in academics and well beyond.
The digital archives, dedicated to the life and times of Integrated Studies, will live on within the UC Davis Honors Program website that absorbed many features of I.S. back in the 1990s. Creating charts and diagrams allows the use of visual aids to capture first-person narratives of the times spent together, as well as serve as a memory collective to support educators seeking to teach the “integrated studies” way —such as this interview with David Robertson, videos and course syllabuses.
Fellow I.S. classmates will shape this webpage. We need to hear from you! Email and invite your friends to be a part of the project. In addition to contributions of stories and photos, the committee seeks a web designer to support the project. The committee can be reached at IntegratedStudiesDavis@gmail.com
Special thanks to the Integrated Studies Alumni Task Force members: John Alongi, John Bonner, Paul Fife, Karen Galbreath, Brad Gelfond, Carol Harvey and Arthur Hermann.
The University Honors program, a unit of the Office of Undergraduate Education, provides students with an enriched undergraduate education through its interdisciplinary curriculum.
