How I can help you: As a peer mentor, I want to be both an accessible resource, and also just a friend to others. It’s my responsibility to do my best to either have the information my peers are looking for, or to help search for that information together, all while fostering an authentic sense of community.
When I started at UC Davis I felt... small. I had a pretty reserved circle in high school, so when I entered college it was overwhelming because there was such a larger volume of things I could immerse myself in and so many more people to potentially meet. Not that that’s a bad thing by any means, but it was a lot to get adjusted to.
Advice for incoming first-year UHP students: Please remember that everyone around you is coming from different environments and upbringings! It’s really easy to experience imposter syndrome when starting college; even though your starting position might be different from someone else’s, you’re fully capable of growth & you deserve success just as much as the next person.
