How I can help you: I would love to help students transition into this new environment and make them feel supported as they adjust to college. I want to be someone they can come to when they need advice about making choices, have questions, or simply need someone to talk to. I would also love to provide a much-needed break from school by planning fun activities or taking them on short adventures where they can relax, connect with others, and feel more comfortable in their new environment.
When I started at UC Davis, I felt: overwhelmed and a little lost. Moving away from home and adjusting to such a new environment was a big change for me, and I didn’t always know where to turn for help or what resources were available. Over time, I became more comfortable asking questions, meeting new people, and finding my place at Davis. Looking back, I think having someone who had already gone through that transition to guide me and remind me that I wasn’t alone would have made a huge difference.
Advice for incoming first-year UHP students: My biggest advice would be to not be afraid to ask for help and take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to you. It can feel like everyone around you already has everything figured out, but most people are still learning and adjusting too. Give yourself time to find what works for you, whether that means trying different study habits, joining new organizations, going to office hours, or meeting new people. Also, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be perfect. College is just as much about growing and learning about yourself as it is about academics, so enjoy the experience and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone!
