Position Title
3rd Year
Hometown: San Diego, CA.
Future Career: Potentially pursuing a career in dietetics, attending medical school, or working in tech R&D.
Personal Interests: Cooking and staying active. Water polo, swimming, and running.
Campus Involvement: I have been a member of the UCD Women's Club Water Polo team. For the past year, I have been an undergraduate research assistant at the Giulivi Lab at the UCD Vet School. During my sophomore year, I served as a co-director for UCD's Kids in Nutrition (KIN). Furthermore, as a freshman, I was part of UCD's Department of Design Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
How I can help you: I can help you navigate the process of feeling uncertain about what to major in. I came to UCD as an English major, switched to design and psychology, and then switched to clinical nutrition. Currently, I'm in the College of Agriculture and have taken a diverse range of classes, from Asian Studies and Chemical Engineering (the coffee class!) to Organic Chemistry. I'm also involved in research here at UCD! My overall research focus comprises of conducting quantitative data synthesis and statistical analysis of mitochondria morphology. I'm in the process of completing a project on evaluating mitochondrial morphology in Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) non-human primate models. I presented my AMD research at the UCD undergraduate research conference during spring quarter. I currently am working with students from the UC Davis Young Scholars Program and community college students from Avenue M. Together, we are investigating the effect of Metformin on mitochondrial morphology, and copper deposits in Willson’s Disease Mice Models. I got my research position after taking a UHP course. I can help you navigate research interest/ answer questions regarding STEM extracurriculars.
When I started at UC Davis: I felt confused, anxious, but excited!
Advice for incoming first-year UHP students: Understand that your freshman year is a time to experience everything and anything. I stressed myself out because I was anxious over taking chemistry and calculus. I recommend coming into your first year with an open mind and an eagerness to explore all possible majors! Don't box yourself in!
