How I can help you: I am hoping to foster a safe and comfortable environment where my mentees can confide in me for advice. Using my knowledge as a student, I am hoping I can guide you toward the right steps as I'm sure I have also come across the same struggles that you faced during your first year.
When I started at UC Davis: I felt major imposter syndrome (I still do!). I felt like I had no place in Davis, constantly comparing my success with my peers and downplaying myself. It took me my whole first year to find some sort of confidence in myself, and I started to grow as a person during my second year.
Advice for incoming first-year UHP students: It will be hard during your first quarter especially because it is a new environment and new faces but that is normal. You may not even settle in until your second or third quarter. Ask questions and find someone to confide in if you ever need advice. Take things slow and don't be too hard on yourself, it'll all work out in the end.
